Ah! the juicy slivers that oozed out of the gravy, giving it the twangy taste, forever associated with joy. The crunchiness of a fresh chunk, beautifully complimented by the soft paneer that floated along with it! The one ingredient that simultaneously brought a smile to my face and a pointed grimace from my paati! Oh how I miss eating…. onions! In India, 1 kg (which, according to my nephew means kaigari [God save this generation of kids!]) of onions is now Rs 70 odd. So we “middle-class” people have to do with potatoes (once described as rich-man’s vegetable). God save us… and the next onion harvest!
